 Neely Henry Lake Bridges

Gilliland-Reese Covered Bridge

Located at 1500 Noccalula Road in Gadsden, AL. Have you ever wanted to explore a small, wooded island in the middle of a big lake? It might be a muddy affair, but here’s your chance. Not too many malls have a nature trail nearby, but Gadsden Mall does. The land bordering H. Neely Henry Lake is too swampy for commercial development, and—as is often the case—since there was not much else to do with it, the land was set aside as an urban green space. But such efforts to transform flood plains and other undesirable acreage into useful recreational space are much appreciated by hikers, bikers, and others who enjoy the outdoors. The park was opened on October 15, 1991, and dedicated to James D. Martin, a Commissioner of the Alabama Department.
